Farmhouse Cottage Reimagined!
The stages of a family’s growth together have so much to do with how they live. We were thrilled to help this client create a comfortable, serene environment! A home that transitioned heavily trafficked areas into unified gathering spaces for her grown children and growing grandchildren! Taking lead from the beautiful animals and gardening outdoors, we developed a stylized (albeit quaint) farm-cottage feel.
Refreshing the Kitchen…
Overall, the kitchen design maintained a galley-style layout. The kitchen had an effective format in a narrow space. We refreshed the feel from a little tired and used to fresh and cheery. Thus, adding a punch of color and some crisp white. The breakfast area was a fun little vista! We were able to creatively re-purpose the client’s existing table, and add dimension (on a dime) with some grasscloth wallcovering.
The home originally had dark wooden floors to start (but no subfloor and damages to the flooring throughout!). We installed a custom LVT flooring over the top. (budget friendly and fast!). Thus, keeping the surface easy to clean and great for wear and tear without breaking the bank. Running the LVT from stem to stern allowed for a seamless execution and a slightly brighter, refreshed palette. All in all, creating the starting point to begin selecting the furnishings.
Bringing Everyone and Everything Together!
The “adult” TV area is located at the front of the house just off the dining area. The family oriented lounge and play area is a couple of steps down from the kitchen. From there, we developed a color palette that was balanced and calm but still layered and fun. Crypton and performance fabrics abound! Just love how the slightly more “formal” adult area played off the larger dining space and gave the client a beautiful space to bring everyone together for a meal (beautiful rich wood finishes here were so appealing to the client!) A quick coat of paint, some new tile and pretty sconces refreshed the fireplace area and gave a nice new anchor to this room.
Down the “family fun” end of the house we had to create a more versatile and shape-shifter friendly environment for the kids and adults to all be happy and situated. A large sectional and cocktail ottoman make for the perfect movie night hang out (obsessed with that deep sienna orange ottoman!) – and just off the family TV area the kids game and reading area was left a bit more open so that it can change with the grandchildren as their needs develop over time.
So many little elements that helped create the whole, here. Don’t you just want to take some time to sit and watch life roll on by in that breakfast nook! So pretty!
