Downtown city home on a narrow lot
This stunning downtown city home is charismatic and fit for the couple who own it.
It’s hard not to feel the vivacious energy and get-it-done attitude of a busy pair of professionals who love to work hard and play hard in this home.
The Boom-Boom Room
Starting in “the boom-boom room” this fabulous bonus space offered significant volume that begged for everything extravagant and bold. Rich, layered color along with unique shapes and forms come together to balance scale and substance. The curved bar accented with sculptural lighting and stylized club-style barstools was an existing feature we had to incorporate, complete with curved soffit above (which is now clad in a soft champagne mica wallpaper – oo-lala). The furnishings had to feel substantial and fit for a crowd – lots of seating, lots of fabrics, lots of funk! Tying it together, the walls are clad in a soft but stunning wall covering that warms the space and elevates all the furnishings, almost acting as a perfect neutral to the herringbone layout of the flooring and extravagance of all the rest! And that fireplace – previously an eyesore with ugly brown and black gaudy materials – now the textured metal geometric tile that offers a little glitz and a LOT of glamour makes our hearts melt. Perfect for a gathering and sure to be a showstopper we loved every ounce of designing this room and finding the right partnership of color and pattern. Now it’s time to party!
A Cozy Living Area for Balance
To balance, the goal for the primary living room was fun and welcoming, but equally as punchy with a palm pattern wrapping the room in deep midnight in order to offset the otherwise clean white kitchen that was pre-existing and cognac colored leather sofa. Cozying up the living area with unique art, collected buddhas and a sort of history of curiosities display – there was a lot of visual interest brought to a room that really needed warming up and “pulling together”. Everyone always loves the tall ceilings and open spaces, but when it comes to really making them feel well appointed and in harmony with the rest of a house, special attention has to be paid to style, color, and how the finishes integrate from one space to the next in order to still find an approachability to the space. In this case we had the foyer as a visual break – but the front-most boom boom room and back of the house kitchen & living both needed to really deliver on design!
Sophisticated Master Retreat
Wrapping up in the master, a certain softness needed to be established here from the “noise”. While there is still a beautiful palette of purples and blushes and champagne accents, the overall blend of pattern and texture here is sophisticated and a bit more subdued. Metal, stone and mirrored finishes help pump up the glam in this room from the nightstands with brass plated drawer fronts to the mirrored console with a stone top across from the bed. And of course, no opportunity is left by the wayside – we loved how the soft patterned wallcovering envelopes this room and nods to the sass from downstairs in a more serene and soothing way.
