“Before and After” Beach Cottage Coastal Design

Coastal remodel

Beach house living is like no other!

Not much to say about this coastal remodel and interior design that photos will not say much better! A client investor came to us in December of last year needing a quick turn around on a home on the beach. And I mean quick- April 1 deadline for a big wedding going on that had been booked for months.

A tight deadline on a coastal remodel? Yikes.

A little nervous at the tight turn around once we saw that this was not just a redo on furnishings but full kitchen and 5 baths as well. Did I  mention painting exterior and new flooring throughout? But with one of our ace contractors on board we felt confident we could make it happen! Ok ok- we sweated every minute of it but we like a challenge.

Great teamwork with clients and our In Detail crew.

Great clients who made quick decisions enabled our team to pull off what we might  term a miracle in the design world- see for yourself and let us know if you like this coastal remodel!

A softer look was key to pull off this open floor plan and not compete with the view in this coastal remodel.

An open floor plan in a coastal remodel means contiguous flooring and a harmonious color palette is best for a pulled together design.

The client opted for leather sofas to last longer with more wear and tear from renters- the coffee table is marble and brass. Coastal remodel.

And key to any beach house  is the comfy swivel! This is one of our favorites and so many choices in fabrics and the best part is it is a slip cover! The client liked it so much he wanted one for his own house!

Here you can really see the entire open plan with a sneak peek to the kitchen which deserves it’s own blog post next! The table is a beautiful shade of blue stain on wood- very sturdy and the chairs are simple to mesh well with the flooring- which by the way is a fabulous LVT we sell in our shop.

A view to the other side of the dining. Note the color on the walls is not beige- but a neutral with a hint of green undertones. Color by Ben Moore Silver Song

Note the leather sofas- standing up to wear and tear!

We found some beautiful large scale pendants for over the table- this is such an important aspect- say no to cheapo big box lighting!

A few of the coastal colorful baths. Love the rolling shower doors – cool looking  and saved space. The floors in two mirrored baths were laid in a herringbone pattern for visual interest and we changed out the lighting to be recessed cans as well as a decorative pendant. Color is Ben Moore Stormy Monday

Coastal color does not have to be garish to be fun- in this bath which is a mirror image of the previous one we used Ben Moore Mysterious. We also used Mysterious HERE.

This bathroom was similar but all in one room- we went brass in here just for fun- light gray penny rounds on the floor and Ben Moore Bella Blue on the vanity for some coastal color!

And now the BEFORE! Drum roll please-

So this is the BEFORE and you can see the curved soffit covering the kitchen- molding cutting the visual line and detracting from 10 ft ceilings, dated furnishings ( even though fairly new from previous owners) and a (gasp!!) tv blocking the view- just say no!

A before shot looking towards back of living room. We suggested to add more glass here in the way of a double set of french doors- this additional glass helps the room feel more open and take advantage of the views!

We took out all but one tub- not necessary in this home that is primarily on the rental market- but note the odd and big soffit in this one bathroom- we eliminated this right away! Yuck.

More before pictures this week when we post the kitchen before and after! Hope you enjoyed this transformation! See you soon and be sure to give us a call if you want your home to under go a transformation too! {Note that many of the items you see here can be purchased through our online store and shipped directly to you. }
