The kitchen in this older home was remodeled with the gracious and classic style the homeowner’s designed, with a few touches of modern tossed into the mix. The custom hood was designed by In Detail and constructed by the Renaissance Man, Kevin Marchetti. The cold rolled steel material was enhanced by a band of steel honed and ground down to add sparkle to the focal point hood.
We chose white cabinetry for the classic look that the rest of the home embodies. But adding to the modern is the use of gray quartz from Cambria. This added a sleekness to the kitchen that typical granite would have not. The pulls are also quite varied and with a modern style.
The original kitchen was dark and drab, and the original brick just enhanced the dreary ambiance. We chose to paint the brick a light shade of gray and use a variation of the same color on the walls and wood ceiling.
The island is unique in that we wanted a table style that would work well for small children. This is at counter height for easy seating, is constructed of wenge wood, and has an aluminum base to support it. This allows us to avoid any obstructions, such as corbels. Makes seating much easier.
The “butlers” area is a narrower section of cabinetry in a wide hallway, leading to the formal dining space. It is designed for using as a hutch, as well as storage for linens and other dining room needs and kitchen overflow. The center “platter” rack is a nice way to add some color and definition in the crown detail, as the crown wraps the shallower middle section for a nice effect.
