This uninspired and tired bathroom was in need of an overhaul.
Everything from white ceramic tile counter tops and floors, to the polished brass fixtures, it all had to go. In addition to updating finishes and fixtures, the client really wanted to have the bathroom feel more open. In order to open up the space, a new walk-in shower was configured and the old built-in tub was removed and replaced with a modern free standing tub. A half wall was built, to the side of tub, to house plumbing and act as another horizontal surface, for storage. To tie the newly separated tub and shower together, a warm marble styled tile was run from floor to ceiling. Adding more visual consistency and giving the illusion of taller ceilings.
The vanity cabinets were replaced with custom cabinetry in a rich, dark stain. The two sinks were combined into just one sink, allowing for more counter top space – which suits the client’s needs. In order to maintain an open feeling, the wall between the toilet area and vanity area was left at only a half wall. The upper section of the wall was finished out in the same wood as the cabinetry and lined with glass shelves to create more storage space and maintain an open feel.
The white, dated ceramic tile flooring was replaced with a warm and slightly distressed porcelain tile that has the appearance of wood. Lastly, an eye-catching mirror and modern sconce combination added excitement to the vanity area. The clients now have an open and updated bathroom that functions the way they need it to for their everyday life.
