What a difference a day makes: Brizo and St Jude

A few weeks ago I was invited to share in a fabulous trip to Memphis to reunite with almost 80 other designer/bloggers who all share a bond with Brizo Faucets. We toured their plant, learned about new product roll outs ( one of my favorite things!) and toured the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, who Brizo partners with in the Dream Home Giveaway.  This is the day that made the difference.

I love going on these trips sponsored by manufacturers. It is no lie. I love meeting all the designers who attend, the PR folks, the manufacturer staff and believe it or not, factory tours have always been something I look forward to…it is the info animal that I am, I think! But this trip was different. It was about the kids and the work that St Jude does day in and day out….impacting kids all over the world. Had I heard about St Jude before? Yes, of course. Did I pay much attention? No, honestly, I did not.

We are all bombarded with charitable requests both nationally and locally. I tend to be one who favors placing my charitable donations into locally funded causes. Side note: I am part of the country’s largest Impact 100 group of women here in little ‘ole Pensacola. And am quite proud we have such a giving community. 

 

But the day we met with the staff of Brizo and St Jude and they talked about the partnership between the two, it was obvious this is a passionate partnership.  Seriously, each staffer I spoke to at Brizo was just as committed as the staff at St Jude. It was hard to not want to be a part of the experience. And, as we were told over and over to make sure it sunk in: IT IS ALL FREE TO THE PATIENT AND FAMILY. You heard that right.

I was captivated by the art around all the buildings. It was uplifting and humbling all at the same time.

To date, Brizo has donated almost 1.3 million dollars to the Dream Home Giveaway. That is a serious commitment! I don’t know about you but I am always more inclined to do business with a company who gives back. It is just good business.

81 cents of EVERY DOLLAR received is used to support the research and treatment of kids at St Jude. This means for the fiscal year of 2012:

***over 25,000 doses of chemotherapy given

***173 bone marrow transplants and 9939 MRI Exams

***9369 Diagnostic X rays

***12,568 Blood Transfusions

***1774 Radioisotope Scans

***1698 Surgical cases

***706,404 Pharmacy doses dispensed

***5709 Dental Procedures

And this is just 2012. For me, it was eye opening and I am so grateful to Brizo for allowing us to be educated on this wonderful organization. Count me in as an ambassador for the Gulf Coast of Florida. Oh yeah, and the rest of the trip was a blast too! More later!
